A file is accepted after the information has been reviewed and the scope, fee and timeframe have been established and agreed. No obligation arises on either side before that point.

Every report is prepared for a stated purpose, as at a stated date, on the basis of the information available when it was written.

It may not be used for another purpose without appropriate review, and no part of it may be quoted in isolation from its context, assumptions and limitations. Acceptance of a report by any institution remains that institution's decision.

A file may require the services of a lawyer, engineer, surveyor, accountant, notary or public authority. Those are independent services provided by their own practitioners, and fall outside the scope of the service unless expressly agreed otherwise.
